The AI Paradox: Transformative and Overhyped at the Same Time

We are on the precipice of one of the most transformative moments in human history. The headlines covering it are almost comically overblown.

Both of those things are true at the same time.

LLMs are going to fundamentally change knowledge work. Not tweak it. Not disrupt it in the Silicon Valley buzzword sense. Actually change it, the way electricity changed manufacturing. And yet the dominant online narrative oscillates between "nothing is real anymore" and "Skynet is two quarters away." Neither is useful. Neither is accurate.

The irony is that the people most at risk aren't the ones the doomers are worried about. It's the developers building the tools. And even that isn't the apocalypse—it's just evolution. The accountant role looked completely different after Excel. It didn't disappear. It transformed.

That's the whole thing. The moment is real. The hysteria is noise. Learning to hold both of those thoughts at once, without collapsing into either panic or dismissal, might be the most important skill of the next decade.
